Strawberries are Red is a call for entry—open to all ages—for 2D or 3D artwork containing or about strawberries, or simply containing the color of strawberries. The Strawberries are Red exhibit coincides with the 41st Annual Troy Strawberry Fest (www.gostrawberries.com). The Troy Strawberry Fest is held the first weekend in June and is one of the top-attended festivals in the state of Ohio. The theme for this year’s Troy Strawberry Fest is “Strawberry Palooza”. Artwork submitted for the exhibit do not have to relate to the Troy Strawberry Fest theme.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
The Mayflower Arts Center seeks submissions for their upcoming exhibition Strawberries are Red. The Mayflower Arts Center seeks 2D and 3D artwork from all ages. Approved artwork submitted will be displayed and the show’s jury will select their top artworks for recognition and awards.
ADJUDICATION and AWARDS
Juror awards will be announced during the Opening Reception on Friday, June 1 at 6:00 - 8:00PM. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place artist winners in both youth (< age 18) and adult (age 18+) categories. Award winners will be based solely on juror’s preference, and not necessarily technical merit or adherence to exhibit theme. The jurors for the Strawberries Are Red exhibition are:
Lisa Bauer – has been involved in the creation and administration of art for over 30 years. She holds a dual Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and Environmental Design from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and an MBA with concentrations in Marketing and Project Management from Wright State University. In her spare time she is also a freelance graphic designer. Ms. Bauer has a deep passion for art and education and delights in sharing it with all artists as the owner and director of the Mayflower Arts Center.
Shirley DeLaet – DeLaet started creating her art from the beginning of her early development as a child, and she continues to do so to this very day. Being mostly self-taught, she has learned over the years through observation, experimentation, and experience. Shirley’s creative adventures have taken her from fine art, into the world of commercial art as an illustrator and graphic designer, and back again. Having retired from her art career, she is now able to focus on her fine art painting and her product design work. DeLaet creates her paintings, both still life and landscape, in oil or watercolor. Many landscape paintings are done outdoors but most of her work is done in her Troy, Ohio studio.
Timothy Wells – A professional artist and educator, Wells’ photography and installation art have been exhibited in galleries across the country. Wells has been teaching photographic-arts at the college level and workshops for nearly 10 years, holds an MFA from Wayne State University, is a member of several public art committees, is the founder of the Proscenia Film Society, and is the resident artist at the Mayflower Arts Center.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD
People’s Choice Awards will be based on votes received by exhibition visitors during the Troy Strawberry Festival on June 1 - 3. There are two People’s Choice Awards: favorite youth (< age 18) artwork and favorite adult (age 18+) artwork. The artists with the most votes will receive the People’s Choice Award, and artists receiving the second and third most number of votes will receive a Certificate of Honorable Mention. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Troy Strawberry Festival weekend, Sunday, June 3 at 4:00PM.

Located in the historic 1928 Mayflower Theatre—in the heart of vibrant downtown Troy—the Mayflower Arts Center offers a full range of visual and performing arts that create, enlighten and inspire the community. From rotating exhibits in the art gallery, to our creative arts studio, we offer art classes, summer art camps, paint nights, indie/art movies, guest lectures, performances, and concerts, making the Mayflower Arts Center your complete destination for the arts. Our facilities are also available for private rentals, private screenings, parties and events. The Lobby Gallery presents work from local, regional, and national artists throughout the year.

- All artwork must be delivered ready to install. Any work not properly prepared will not be included in the exhibit.
- The Mayflower Arts Center is a family-friendly arts center. Work depicting nudity, profanity, or obscenities cannot be accepted. If you have a question about the acceptability of your art, please contact us before submitting.
- All artwork must be original.
- All artwork must either be for sale or marked NFS (Not For Sale). The Mayflower Arts Center takes a 30% commission on all sold artwork.
- Exhibiting artists will be required to deliver artwork to the Mayflower Arts Center by no later than MAY 26. Work shipped must include return postage. No packing peanuts please. Any artwork received after 6:00pm on MAY 26 may not be included in the exhibit.
- By submitting artwork to Strawberries are Red you grant the Mayflower Arts Center the right to use and publish images of your artwork for promotional purposes. Artist retains all other rights to the artwork.
- The attached Exhibit Agreement and Exhibit Inventory Tags must be completed and delivered with your artwork.
